Woods, who is from Phoenix, won the first two holes with pars and was at least 2-up the rest of the way. She won the fourth with a par and the sixth with a birdie to go 4-up.

Professionals will team with different amateur partners over the first three rounds. The top 70 professionals make the 54-hole cut and the winner will get the newly- created Bob Hope Trophy.

 

The 2012 edition will run from January 19-22.

 

PGA Tour rookie Jhonattan Vegas won this year's Bob Hope tournament in a playoff over Gary Woodland and Bill Haas.

 

Bubba Watson is making a rare appearance on the European Tour and he struggled in the first round. He shot a three-over 74 and is tied for 90th place.

 

Green parred his first two holes, then rattled off back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth holes. He parred the next four, but caught fired around, and after, the turn.

 

A bogey at the par-four 17th dropped Green into a tie for the lead and a par at the last kept him in first.

 

Confidence is something Green might lack. He hasn't had a top 10 this season, but last week he shared 12th at the BMW International in Germany to bolster his prospects.

 

"I've been working hard on my driving lately and putting especially, and it all seems to be coming to nicely," said Green. "I played pretty solid golf last week in Germany and it's come through this week here, as well."

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year.No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
